Title

Letter on access to PREA standards

Description

These documents detail a series of communications between an incarcerated trans woman, Juanita,, the Transgender Pride Initiative (TPI) President Nell Gaither, and the PREA Ombudsman Lynne Sharp. TPI assisted Juanita in gaining access to the full Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards that were being denied to her and other incarcerated individuals. Juanita includes a copy of her initial request of the material that was denied. TPI then requested the full text of the "National Standards to Prevent, Detect, and Respond to Prison Rape" be added to the TDCJ Law Library Holdings List and included in all TDCJ Law Library holdings for Juanita and others. The request was approved by the PREA Ombudsman and the PREA Standards resource was added to the Law Library Holdings for accessibility to all TDCJ incarcerated people. Juanita is writing to thank IBP for the books, request more books, and submit these documents for the archive.
